Enhancing Cybersecurity Strategies for ISO15118 V2G Protocols within AUTOSAR-Based Systems

Abstract

With the increasing use of electric vehicles, the establishment of a robust infrastructure becomes paramount to sustain their operation. Essential to this infrastructure is the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) communication network, governed by the ISO 15118 standard, facilitating communication between vehicles and the grid during the charging process. Despite ISO 15118's recommendation of X.509 hierarchical Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for securing communications, criticisms regarding its vulnerabilities persist. However, a comprehensive solution addressing these concerns and aligning with ISO 15118's principles remains elusive. This paper introduces an innovative protocol designed to rectify the shortcomings identified in existing approaches, while emphasizing adherence to ISO 15118 standards. Crucially, the solution ensures confidentiality, anonymity, integrity, and non-repudiation and the implementation of these security enhancements within the AUTOSAR standards, as well as other enhancements at the application layer to further strengthen V2G systems against vulnerabilities of power charging techniques.
