Enhancement of Composite Resin Bonding on Dental Tissues Using Cold Atmospheric Plasma Discharge: A Systematic Literature Review and Proposal for a Redaction Grid

Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective is to evaluate the current evidence on cold atmospheric plasmas (CAP) applications on dental tissues to enhance resin bonding. A systematic review was conducted in November 2024 on PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar. Thirty‐three studies were included. CAP application reduced the contact angle on dentin and enamel. Most studies reported increased bond strength dentin, but more variable results on enamel. Results are presented in tables for CAP application on the two tissues. To conclude, the use of a dielectric barrier discharge plasma‐jet device during 30 s at a distance of 2–10 mm from the tissues may lead to better adhesive performance. The description of CAP application requires standardization across studies, with the PLASDENT grid proposed here.
