EMT Modelling of a Laboratory Platform with Integrated PV Systems for Voltage Unbalanced Analysis

Abstract

PV rooftop installations are proliferating worldwide, and the increasing integration of PV capacity into distribution networks poses a significant challenge for Distribution System Operators as they are tasked with ensuring power quality, particularly concerning voltage requirements. This paper addresses the Power Quality (PQ) issues within a residential distribution grid by assessing the unbalanced voltage index. The proposed analysis is demonstrated on a laboratory platform through a series of case studies with simulations conducted using the EMTP-RV software. The results illustrate how the PQ index depends on grid line impedance and on PV inverter control according to power flow.
