Electron-impact double ionization of helium in the presence of a laser field : soft-photon limit

Abstract

Abstract A fivefold differential cross section for electron-impact double ionization of helium in the presence of a laser field is analyzed in the soft-photon limit derived by Kroll and Watson approximation. Particular attention is devoted to the contribution of the dressed wave functions in both the initial and final states. The influence of the laser parameters (photon energy, intensity, and direction of polarization) on the angular distribution of the ejected electrons is discussed and a number of illustrative examples are given.
