Effect of implemented blended educational program on nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding meniscus repair

Abstract

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the effect of implementing a blended educational program on Nurses’ Knowledge, attitudes, and Practices (KAP) regarding meniscus repair. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quasi-experimental design was used to recruit ( n = 43 nurses) to participate in the current study using a purposive sampling method, which took place at the inpatient surgery unit and orthopedic outpatient clinic of Basma Teaching Hospital in July 2024. An interview assessment questionnaire consisting of four parts, including demographics; pre-/post-observation checklist, Nurses’ Attitude Regarding meniscus repair, and a suggested educational blended program. Comparisons using chi-square and Wilcoxon rank tests, and correlations using Pearson’s correlation, with a P value < 0.05. RESULTS: A total of 43 nurses were recruited for this study. The mean age of participants was 31.93 ± 9.06. Nurses’ knowledge of meniscus repair was 3.17 ± 1.81 on average before the educational program, but it improved to 6.19 ± 1.28 right after the program was implemented. For attitude, it was shown that nurses have a competency within an average of 9.09 ± 4.98 before applying to the educational program, which improved to 22.3 ± 1.99 but decreased to 19.73 ± 3.27 after 3 months of applying to the educational program. CONCLUSION: In light of the study findings, it was recommended to implement ongoing educational and in-service training programs to enhance nurses’ KAP related to meniscus repair procedures. These initiatives are intended to improve the quality of nursing care, reduce complications, and ultimately enhance postoperative outcomes for patients undergoing meniscus repair.
