Effect of Audio drama based educational program on healthy life style practices among visually impaired students

Abstract

The visual impairment students need support in personnel activities. Visual impairment students are extremely vulnerable because of limiting access to health information and ability to live a healthy lifestyle. Aim: Study aimed to evaluate the effect of Audio drama based educational program on healthy life style practices among visually impaired students Design: A quasi experimental pre/post-test research design was utilized. Setting: Al-Nour school for the Blind, Kafr El-Sheikh governorate. Sample: A purposive sample of 210 visually impaired students. Tools I: Structured interviewing Questionnaire which consisted of four parts 1. Assess socio-demographic data; 2. Assess medical and family history for students; 3. Questionnaire for assessing student knowledge regards personal hygiene 4. Student satisfaction Questionnaire with the audio- educational sessions. II: Health-Related Lifestyle Questionnaire to assess the student life style. Results: There were diminish of visually impairment students' knowledge and practices regarding personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle before implementing the Audio drama sessions. In addition, there were an enhancement in students' total knowledge and practices scores post provision the Audio-drama teaching sessions with highly statistically significant differences at P<0.01. Conclusion: The Audio drama educational sessions were effective in improvement the visually impaired students' knowledge and practices regarding Lifestyle. Recommendation: Raising awareness of students about the personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle by further educational and training programs especially for disable and visual impairment students.
