This Special Issue on Transforming Education for Sustainable Futures (TESF) – with its emphasis on views from the global South has been in process for many years and has taken a considerable amount of time to develop and complete. It started with a UKRI-GCRFfunded three-year research project established as a partnership between the University of Bristol, and three sub-regional hubs in South Africa, Rwanda, Somalia/Somaliland and one in India, for researching Transformative Education for Sustainable Futures. The project, started in 2019, was established as a TESF Network+ that worked with 67 projects over the three-year period spread across the four sub-regional hubs (see www.https://tesf.network). Like many projects at the time, it was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but researchers in the 67 projects all adopted a knowledge production approach to exploring what it means to transform education for sustainable futures.
