Digitization of Indigenous Knowledge: Focus on Ilorin Durbar Festival, Ilorin, Nigeria

Abstract

Background:Festivals, whether religious, cultural, or secular, play an important role in society. It plays an important role in any local community because it contributes to the development of a people's pride, culture and identity in a particular community. Purpose: This study examines digitization of indigenous knowledge of Ilorin durbar festival, Ilorin Nigeria. Method: However, This study adopts narrative method of research design using interview as method of data collection. This study is divided into different sections to enhance comprehensive presentation. The introduction presents the overview as it concern Ilorin durbar festival, Kwara state, Nigeria. Also, background information of essential concepts were presented. After the introduction, the problem or need that necessitated the study was presented. Furthermore, the main and specific objectives are outlined to give the study the direction. It also presented in the study literature that related to the study. Result: However, framework to describe the durbar activities in Ilorin emirate was design and explained. The study found out that activities such as horse riding, Ilorin anthem, Ijoolomo-oba and Keegbe Lulu (Calabash beat) can be digitilised so that accessibility and future use could be possible through capturing instrument like cameral, recording tape and use of compact disc. Conclusion: The study concludes that digitization of festival like that of durbar can be view and access all over the world by larger audience. The study recommends that committee should set up to take the responsibility of digitalized activities of Ilorin emirate durbar festival and programme of events should be communicated to the general public before the festival day.
