Development of Tri Hued Sustainable Methods for Assay of Antidepressant Supporting Treatment of Women Mental Disorder: A Comparative Study with an Official Method

Abstract

A persistent sensation of hopelessness and loss of interest are hallmarks of depression, a form of mood illness. Depression tends to affect women at nearly twice the rate of men. Mirtazapine (MRZ) is widely used for the treatment of all types of depression. Sustainable spectrophotometric approaches have been established to analyze MRZ in bulk powder and dosage form. The first approach involves measuring the first derivative (D1) spectra amplitudes at 295–335 nm in 0.1N HCl. The second approach involves comparing the difference spectrophotometry <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\varDelta A)$</tex> and first derivative <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\mathbf{\Delta}\boldsymbol{D}\mathbf{1})$</tex> spectra of drug solutions in 0.1 N HCl to those in 0.1 N NaOH. The amplitudes of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{\Delta}\boldsymbol{A}$</tex> at 320 nm and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{\Delta}\boldsymbol{D}\mathbf{1}$</tex> from 304–336 nm were measured. Sustainability practices in pharmaceutical analysis are now as important as validating new procedures. The proposed methods were validated as per ICH guidelines and evaluated for sustainability using AGREE, RGB12, BAGI and hexagon metrics.
