Determination of the Face Most Exposed to Wind Effects: Application to a High-Rise Building in the Casablanca Region (Morocco)

Abstract

Wind is by nature turbulent and fluctuates in speed and direction. This is why its action is represented by a set of static and dynamic pressures whose effects on the construction studied are equivalent to the extreme effects. The determination of wind pressure on a structure takes into account: the shape of the building, the regional wind conditions and the dynamic and aerodynamic characteristics. The objective of this study is to determine the face most exposed to wind effects for on a building composed by a ground floor, a garden floor and 15 floors. It is a high-rise building marked by its innovative concept that emphasizes the ecology by vegetated terraces. This project is located in the North-West of the Anfa Clubs district in Casablanca (Morocco). The structure studied is a building for residential use located in the region I at a normal site according to the Moroccan map of regional distribution of maximum wind speeds. The results of the calculation of the total resulting wind action on each face according to the snow and wind rules NV65 permitted to determine the face most exposed to wind effects. These results stated that with increasing face areas, the wind action increases.
