Determinant of Challenges Associated with Sustainable Utilisation of Drones in the Building Construction Sector<b></b>

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to identify obstacles related to the sustainable use of drones in the building construction industry in the greater Accra area of Ghana. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study employed a quantitative research design. 120 workers from construction companies received a Google Form survey, using the snowball sampling technique. A survey questionnaire was then used to confirm the parameters. 93 replies from the participants, accounting for 77.5 percent of the total were received. The data were analysed using One-way ANOVA, frequency, percentage, and mean value. Findings: The key barriers to drone adoption in the building construction industry were identified as a lack of professional skills, legal limitations, high costs, competency issues, weather restrictions, ease of use, ethical and privacy concerns, and other factors. Research limitations: The snowball sampling technique employed is a non-probability sampling method that limits the generalizability of findings to the broader construction worker population Practical Implication: Additionally, in coordination with professional associations, it should support the training and certification of construction workers to equip them with the necessary skills to operate and maintain drones safely. Social Implication: Enhanced ability to identify hazards early through comprehensive aerial monitoring and thermal imaging. Originality/value: The goal of the study is to identify the issues surrounding drone utilisation that compromise the sustainability of the building construction sector in Ghana, as there are currently few studies on these issues. By drawing attention to the challenges associated with using drones, this work substantially contributes to the existing body of knowledge.
