Design, Simulation, and Fabrication of a Cheap Low-profile Filtenna for 5G Mid-Band Applications

Abstract

Nowadays, research into techniques for miniaturizing and simplifying wireless communication systems is extremely essential to meet the growing demand for more compact, efficient and versatile connected devices in our modern society. This work proposes a filtenna which is an innovative design technique that combines the filter and the antenna into a single multifunctional device capable of filtering and radiating. This will save space, reduce losses and minimize clutter problems. The structre of the filtenna is deposited on a low-price and low-profile Fiberglass-Reinforced (FR) Epoxy substrate. After validation of the simulation results, a prototype of the filtenna was manufactured and tested using the 3656D Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The simulated and measured results were consistente making the suggested filtenna suitable for incorporation into small electronic devices for n77(3.3-4.2GHz) 5G Mid-band applications.
