Design of a New Dual-Band Bandpass Filter Suitable for X-Band and Ku-Band Applications

Abstract

The present paper introduces a new design of microstrip dual-band bandpass filter designed for radar, satellite, or advanced 5G applications. The filter is designed by implementing a resonator composed of four interconnected open-loop resonators on a Rogers RT/duroid 6010 ™ substrate with dielectric constant of 10.2, dielectric tangent of 0.02, and 0.26mm for the thickness. The filter designed and evaluated using high frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) with a compact size of 8x9mm<sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</sup>. The dual-band bandpass filter exhibits two wide bandwidths focused at 8.18GHz and 15.3GHz, with fractional bandwidths FBW of 173.5% and 143%, respectively. It respectively covers the X and Ku bands, making it particularly suitable for high-frequency wireless communication systems. The reflection coefficient is -34dB at the first band, and -39db for the second. While the Both bands are characterized by low insertion losses (0.77 dB and 1.57 dB), demonstrating excellent filtering performance.
