Design and Study of MIMO Antenna for WLAN Applications by Using DMS and DGS Techniques

Abstract

This paper presents a new design of a compact MIMO antenna for WLAN applications. The proposed structure operate at 5.3 GHz band with high isolation. The proposed MIMO antenna is composed with two symmetrical radiating elements using microstrip technology. The structure incorporating defected microstrip structure (DMS) and defected Ground Structures (DGS) techniques to improve to performance at the desired frequency band in term of impedance bandwidth, isolation and efficiency. The simulated results show that the MIMO antenna has a high adaptation (S11 near to-40 dB) and high isolation (S12 around -30 dB) at the 5.3GHz. On the other hand, the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) and the diversity gain (DG) are less than 2.10-<sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">5</sup> and more than 9.99 dB at 5.3 GHz, respectively. Witch mean that, the proposed system has a good diversity gain at the WLAN applications.
