Abstract This paper discusses about a single-phase reduced-switch nine-level inverter that is capable of generating a high-quality output voltage waveform with low harmonic distortion. The study includes the presented inverter design, control strategy, and its operation for grid integration of battery storage system. Level-shifted pulse width modulation technique is used to generate the switching signals for the proposed grid integrated battery storage system. The performance of the proposed topology is evaluated through MATLAB simulations and validated by real-time results using OPAL-RT simulator. The results indicate that it can meet the standard grid code requirements for low total harmonic distortion, high efficiency, and a good power factor. Overall, the proposed inverter offers an effective solution for high-quality power generation in grid connected battery storage system. The proposed grid connected battery storage system has the potential to be used in various applications, including renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, and industrial power conversion systems.
