Recent studies have indicated that the incidence of Parkinson's disease has been on the increase as a neurodegenerative disease globally. While treatment using drugs like levodopa has offered much assistance, many are limited due to increased side effects. Several research on the role of neuromodulation and deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease have revealed much more beneficial properties. Neuromodulation and deep brain stimulation is an innovative and safe therapeutic approach in neurodegenerative diseases that can effectively improve neuroimaging, structure and functions of the brain to enhance movement functions. The approach can enhance electrophysiological markers as feedback signals mechanism within the brain highlighting the potential of integrating and making an informed decision on selecting non-invasive and invasive neuromodulation techniques for the condition. This book chapter is to give an overview on the recent advances in the novel application of deep brain stimulation and neuromodulation technology in the therapeutic treatment of Parkinson's disease.
