Data from: Ecological sequencing of heat and moisture cues improves germination of teak (Tectona grandis)

Abstract

This dataset contains the individual-level germination records from a factorial experiment on teak drupes (Tectona grandis) designed to test whether the sequence of ecological pretreatments affects germination. Drupes were collected in 2025 from a managed teak clonal seed orchard in Phayao Province, Thailand, pooled, size-graded, and subjected to nine treatment groups: an untreated control and single or sequential combinations of mechanical scarification (MS), dry heat (HT; 80 °C for 6 h), and alternate wetting-drying (WD; seven 24-h cycles). After treatment, drupes were sown in germination trays in a 1:1 sand-soil mixture under screenhouse conditions in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, either on the surface or buried at 2 cm depth. For each treatment × sowing depth combination, four trays of 24 drupes were used, for a total of 1,728 drupes monitored daily for 30 days. Each row in Germination_2025_long_combined.csv represents one drupe and includes the treatment code (Treatment), replication (Replication), tray position (Column, Row), sowing depth (Depth), and day of germination/emergence (Day). Missing values in Day indicate that no germination was observed within the 30-day observation period. The dataset was used to analyze final germination, emergence timing, treatment effects, depth effects, and survival-style germination responses in teak.
