This paper proposes a consensus tracking control of battery energy storage system (BESS) to manage the charging and discharging power and balancing the batteries' state of charge (SoC). Each battery shares its power and SoC information with adjacent batteries. Compared with the battery consensus control described in the literature, in which the consensus is achieved at the average value or may have been unknown earlier, the proposed consensus tracking control is used for energy management with a certain power target. In addition, the proposed consensus tracking control is used to change between charging and discharging cases by changing the target power. Detailed microgrid is simulated in Matlab to study the proposed consensus tracking control. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed technique in handling energy management considering batteries charging and discharging cases with different levels of target load power. In addition, simultaneously with batteries consensus tracking of target power, their SoC balancing is achieved.
