Single tuned harmonic filters (STFs) are widely used in distribution systems in order to mitigate the harmonic distortion and to attenuate its undesirable effects in the distribution systems. This paper presents a comprehensive parametric analysis for the STF to study the impact of the filter parameters on its performance. While changing the filter parameters' values such as the quality factor, the tuned frequency and the filter size, the impedance-frequency characteristics curve of the filter can be affected. Also, this paper studies the effect of the distribution system characteristics on the harmonic pass_band that the filter can mitigate. Therefore, the presented analysis can help the designers to understand the operation and performance of the STF and therefore helps in selecting the proper values for the filter parameters to enhance the STF performance and achieve specific mitigation characteristics. The simulation analyses are done under MATLAB environment.
