Comparison of the performance of MPPT control techniques (Fuzzy Logic, Incremental Conductance and Perturb & Observe) under MATLAB/Simulink

Abstract

The non-linear output of a photovoltaic (PV) panel under different irradiance and temperature values poses a challenge for the design of maximum power point trackers (MPPT). This paper presents a comparative study between three MPPT control techniques, one based on an artificial intelligence approach "Fuzzy Logic" and the other two based on conventional techniques "Incremental Conductance" and "Perturb & Observe" on the same photovoltaic system with the same static DC-DC converter of "Boost" type. Through this comparative study, insights into the effectiveness and performance differences among these control techniques are provided. A behavioral analysis of the three systems in terms of speed, accuracy, and stability has been established through a simulation under MATLAB/Simulink.
