Globally, heart disease leads to more than 20·5 million deaths annually, and most of these deaths occur in low-income and middle-income countries. An estimated 80% of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease and related non-communicable diseases could be prevented through affordable access to treatment, scalable early screening, and healthier lifestyle behaviours.1 For World Heart Day on Sept 29, 2024, the South African Heart Association (SA Heart) launched a novel cardiac screening programme in the community called Check my Beat.
