Cardiovascular Risk via Nutrition Using the FIGO Checklist in Pregnant Women, North Cameroon: A Cross-Sectional Study

2026Open accessUniversity of Douala

Abstract

The question this study addressed. This study assessed nutritional practices, quantified gestational weight gain, and estimated cardiovascular risk in a cohort of pregnant women attending antenatal care in a urban hospital in North Cameroon. What this study adds to our knowledge. It documents a strikingly high prevalence (71.1%) of inadequate GWG, alongside suboptimal dietary habits: nearly half of women consumed insufficient fruits and vegetables, and almost two-thirds consumed sugary snacks excessively. These coexisting risk factors were present despite normal or overweight pre-pregnancy BMI in most women. This publication is available in full in Health Research in Africa.
