This dataset comprises camera-trap and vegetation survey data collected during fieldwork near Soutpan in the Free State Province, South Africa, in December 2020. Camera traps were positioned at aardvark (Orycteropus afer) burrows to document vertebrate species using the burrows over the course of seven weeks. The images were classified and summarised in a spreadsheet containing information on species identity, independent encounters, encounter duration, and time of detection. Vegetation was surveyed at aardvark burrows and paired control plots. The vegetation dataset records plant species identity and estimated percentage cover for each plot.
