Calculation of the ionization cross section of the proton impact on the RNA uracil base

Abstract

Abstract The total ionization cross section of the uracil nucleobase (C 4 H 4 N 2 O 2 ) has been measured across a broad range of proton impact energies, highlighting the role of the ionization process in molecular damage. By employing the Rudd model and the Hartree–Fock method for precise cross-section estimations, our findings demonstrate substantial concordance with those reported in both experimental and theoretical models in the existing literature. This serves to reinforce the reliability of our results and underscores the importance of understanding proton-induced ionization mechanisms for the advancement of proton therapy.
