Biomass Depolymerization into Liquid Biofuel: A Review of Process Conditions and an Insight into the Technoeconomic Evaluation

Abstract

The potential of depolymerization through the liquefaction process for converting lignocellulose feedstocks into biocrude, emphasizing its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, was explored. The study focuses on the role of catalysts in the depolymerization process and their impact on biocrude yield and quality, highlighting the benefits of supercritical fluids for improving biofuel quality and process efficiency. The study includes a techno-economic analysis of various biomass feedstocks, revealing significant variability in economic outcomes, and underscores the importance of optimizing feedstock selection and process conditions for sustainable biofuel production.
