Pneumonia is a common and potentially serious illness defined as an inflammation of the air sacs in the lungs in response to an injury, like an infection. Due to the lungs are the softer tissues in the body having an involatory movement all over the lives, and then inflammations (pneumonia) have several causative agents. This study was designed to investigate the possible effect of folic acid on pulmonary toxicity induced experimentally by injected klebsiella pneumonia (k.pneumonia) bacterium at dose of 0.3ml of 4x〖10〗^10 CFU\ml wing and 5 rats were scarified at each of the following time 7 days and 14 days post infiction.in addition biochemical parameters such as inflammatory markers (CRP , IL-2, IL-6,Cortisol),iron profile (Hemoglobin, transferrin,TIBIC,Fe,Ferritin) and antioxidants (Malondialdehyde (MDA),Catalase enzyme activity (CAT) (total antioxidant capacity(TAC) and glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity (Gpx) were performed. The obtained result revealed significant elevation in transferrin, inflammatory markers, MDA and TCA. However, a significant reduction in Fe, Ferritin, nitric oxide, CAT and CBC profile in K. pneumonia treated rats compared to the control group. Administration of folic acid declared a protective effect against induced pulmonary toxicity by k. pneumonia as indicated by significant improvement in biochemical parameters.
