This document offers guidance for users of the CMIP Rapid Evaluation Framework (REF)[1] on how to interpret REF outputs and apply them effectively. It is designed to help users from the CMIP community get the most out of both CMIP data and the REF by providing best practices for rigorous and informed use of the evaluation tool and results. The guidance addresses how to account for model uncertainty, reference data uncertainty, and internal variability, and helps users identify the most relevant metrics and diagnostics for their purposes.
