A growing friend to all is Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, which offers a host of new opportunities in grid management and overall energy optimization. Yet much of the promise and potential of electric vehicles (EVs) relies heavily on having strong communication protocols that allow them to be seamlessly integrated with power grids. In this paper a common communication stack specifically adapted to V2G applications, which combines the strengths of both AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) and ISO 15118 standards is suggested. The AUTOSAR standard is a well-specified automotive software infrastructure with respect to legacy, interoperability and modularity. ISO 15118 defines the communication protocol for V2G interaction, enabling bi-directional power flow and secure data exchange. This paper explores the synergy between these standards by suggesting a standardized layered communication stack which connects in-vehicle control systems to V2G infrastructure outside of vehicle.
