This dataset contains the data generated during a scoping review mapping the evidence on the assessment of fitness to work at heights, conducted as part of a PhD study at the University of Pretoria. The review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute Scoping Review Methodology and PRISMA-ScR guidelines and searched seven databases (ProQuest Central, Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and PsycINFO) as well as grey literature sources in March 2024. Of 573 articles initially retrieved, 68 met the inclusion criteria. A data extraction framework was developed using the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) and Serra et al.'s concept of worker fitness, and data were analysed using deductive qualitative content analysis in Delve software. The dataset includes the Excel data extraction sheets used to extract and organise data from all 68 included articles. Supplemental materials submitted to BMJ Open (PRISMA-ScR checklist, search strings, inclusion criteria checklist, data extraction guidance sheet, and list of included articles) are available as supplemental files to the associated journal article titled "Mapping the evidence on the assessment of fitness to work at heights: a scoping review" (see related links).
