Arthroscopic Latarjet in Recurrent Anterior Shoulder Dislocation

Abstract

BackgroundBankart repair was the main treatment for recurrent shoulder instability. However, this technique may fail to provide shoulder stability in the presence of more severe lesions. Other surgical options exist like the arthroscopic Latarjet which yields excellent results and has many advantages over open Latarjet.Patients and MethodsThis retrospective study was conducted on 25 patients, who had recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation. All patients underwent general clinical examination and shoulder examination, and imaging evaluation including plain radiographs, computed tomography, and MRI of the shoulder. Patients were assessed according to Rowe and Walch–Duplay scores preoperatively and postoperatively.ResultsAll patients showed significant improvement of Rowe and Walch–Duplay scores at the final follow up. The mean Rowe score improved from 24.2 points preoperatively to a mean of 98.2 points postoperatively (P=0.0001). The Walch–Duplay score also improved from a mean of 22.8 points preoperatively to a mean of 96 points postoperatively (P=0.0001).ConclusionsThe results in this study showed high satisfaction rates with no complications. On the other hand, this procedure needs a team work who knows very well the arthroscopic anatomy, the steps of the procedure, and the instrumentation with good control of the blood pressure by the anesthesiologist.
