Electromagnetic suspension and damper systems have recently emerged as valid alternatives to the traditionally utilized hydraulic systems. In the past, different analysis approaches were introduced for the performance assessment of active eddy current dampers and shock absorbers. This paper is to present an evolutionary approach for the solution of electromagnetic field problems related to permanent magnet eddy current dampers. Details of the proposed approach are given in the paper.
