AI Trends and Projections

Abstract

The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming Library and Information Science (LIS) education globally, with strong implications for Nigeria. This chapter explores AI trends and their intersection with entrepreneurial leadership as a framework for repositioning LIS education in the digital era. AI tools such as natural language processing, machine learning, intelligent tutoring, predictive analytics, and virtual reference services are redefining curricula, pedagogy, research, and professional practice, enabling personalized learning, market-responsive programs, and greater research productivity. In Nigeria, entrepreneurial leadership driven by foresight, flexibility, and innovation is vital to bridge gaps between technology and institutional transformation. Challenges such as poor funding, infrastructural deficits, and undervaluation of LIS persist. The chapter recommends curriculum reform, training, mentorship, and partnerships to embed digital skills, boost employability, and align LIS education with the global economy, AU Agenda 2063, and SDG 4.
