AI-Driven Digital Twins & Lean Six Sigma in Power Asset Management: Data & Code

2026Open accessJimma University

Abstract

To demonstrate the OptimTwin framework's impact on long‑term investment planning, NREL 118‑bus data (first 780 h of Region 1) were adapted for IRENA FlexTool. Digital Twins and Large‑Scale Storage reduced outages/losses, with ageing costs, salvage value, and life‑cycle recovery incorporated. A DFFNN trained on Base/Invest scenarios captured least‑cost pathways, adding an "OptimTwin" scenario with retrofitting, recycling, and 30–50% lower generation costs (based on IRENA LCOE trends). Results rely on open‑access data (NREL 118‑bus, GitHub), MATLAB’s DNN Designer, and IRENA FlexTool. Appendices detail procedures follow.
