Air pollution poses a significant global challenge stemming from diverse sources such as vehicles, industries, residences, and natural phenomena. This pervasive issue has profound implications for public health, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of the air quality. Air pollution transcends national development levels, and universal sources contribute to its complexity. The limited number of air quality monitoring stations in urban areas underscores the challenge of obtaining real-time data. However, the widespread deployment of surveillance cameras offers a promising avenue for dense and convenient image capture, thereby facilitating effective air quality evaluation. This article an overview of image quality assessment methods applied to air quality indices. It outlines both objective and subjective approaches to image quality assessment, explores research related to air quality evaluation, presents research findings with in-depth analysis, and concludes by summarizing the key points and suggesting avenues for future research.
