A PRISMA Systematic Review for Intelligent IS/IT Project Portfolio Dashboard from the Value, Prioritization and Risk Perspectives

Abstract

While undertaking their digitalization roadmaps, organizations have to track down the performance of their Information System (IS) and Information Technology (IT) investments within IS/IT Project Portfolios in pursuit of strategic objectives. Therefore, the IS/IT Project Management Office (PMO) ought to be equipped with an IS/IT Portfolio Project Dashboard in order to monitor the up-to-date performance of the IS/IT Project Portfolio and consequently carry out appropriate actions. Meanwhile, uncertainty can jeopardize this performance in some IS/IT Project Portfolio key areas. The present PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) Systematic Review (SR) aims to appraise critically the current body of knowledge regarding methodologies of IS/IT Project Portfolio Dashboards under uncertainty scoping the three main areas of IS/IT Project Portfolio performance: Strategic Portfolio Value (SPV), IS/IT Project Portfolio ranking, and Overall Portfolio Risk (OPR). The present SR retrieved 145 studies fulfilling their eligibility to our research objectives. It is an important first step in understanding the current theory and available evidence in the field of IS/IT Project Portfolio performance management. In practice, our SR is a basis for devising a methodological approach for an IS/IT Project Portfolio Dashboard under uncertainty including three novel Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with respect to the aforementioned areas.
