The Internet of Things (IoT) is an important topic that has attracted the attention of researchers in recent years. The need of a standard IoT architecture becomes ever more urgently and important due to the increasing number devices and technologies emerged every day. Currently, there is no single universal architecture of the IoT systems, and various researchers, companies and studies have proposed several architectures. This study focuses on the state-of-the-art of IoT architectures, such as Cisco’s IoT reference model, ITU’s IoT reference model, and the IoT Architecture (IoT-A) project. As there is a lack standardization and size limitedness at IoT architecture, we focus to build and propose a new IoT architecture model following different layers. In other words, we discuss various existed architectures of IoT layers and we define a novel and an-depth IoT architecture or model with their challenges. The aim is to propose a new global secure and detailed IoT reference to summarize and limit the current advancement made in the architecture of IoT system. Additionally, the proposed IoT architecture contains five layers or levels covered by a security management layer or tool. This work also provides in detail the components and functions of each suggested layer of IoT architecture. Through this article, we present a novel finding of this research. The purpose of this study is to propose a synthetic view of IoT architecture. Another key objective is to develop a novel security framework regarding security issues and attacks in various layers of IoT architecture. Therefore, it is still necessary to explore what parameters affect all aspects of IoT so that it can be built as a unified system, starting from the communication system, server arrangement, in-depth security, and artificial intelligence techniques with high novelty.
