2-D Numerical Modeling of Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis and Absorption Study of the Red Blood Cell Inside the Capillary

Abstract

The Beer-Lambert method based on the absorption of wavelength property for blood elements has been increasingly attractive for solving non-invasive medical analysis problems. In this paper, a two-dimensional geometric model of Red Blood Cells (RBC) inside capillary is developed, the blood is considered as a fluid having a laminar and incompressible flow in interaction with one of its elements which is the RBC. This work aims to study the fluid-structure interaction between plasma and a single RBC. The Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation is used to describe the geometrical changes of the biofluid domain. Furthermore, the determination of beam photon attenuation through RBC inside the micro-vessel is carried out to investigate its wavelength absorptivity. The examination of velocity and pressure fields in the bifurcation region is simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics software.
