Phillip Makatane

I hold a Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, specializing in Mineral Resource Management and Mine Financial Valuation. I have further strengthened my leadership capabilities through a distinction-awarded Leadership Development Program at the University of Johannesburg. I am a registered professional with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), with expertise in mineral resource governance, due diligence, mineral reporting, and Competent Person reporting. Currently serving as Director – Mining Innovation and Technology at the Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub (BDIH), I lead initiatives that foster innovation, technology development, and the commercialization of innovations by supporting the transition of research and emerging technologies into market-ready products and sustainable businesses. I also drive strategic partnerships, innovation ecosystem development, technology commercialization, and investment readiness to accelerate economic growth and industrial competitiveness.
